Hutchinson's 1977 civic arena, named for banker Irvin J. Burich, with a second sheet since 1999
Burich Arena opened in 1977 with a single sheet and was dedicated on October 30 that year to Irvin J. Burich, the third president of Citizens Bank, a Hutchinson institution since 1886. In 1999 a second, no-frills sheet of the same 200-by-85-foot size was added for the growing Tigers hockey program, with seating for 200 on wooden bleachers and a walkway joining the two rinks. The original civic arena became Burich East and the new one Burich West.
The arena is home to the Hutchinson Hockey Association, which runs programs for players ages 5 to 18 who compete across Minnesota Hockey's District 5, the Hutchinson High School girls' and boys' teams, the Hutchinson Figure Skating Association and the city's PRCE Skate School.
The skate school follows Ice Sports Industry standards and runs from October to February, and the season ends with an annual ice show put on with the figure skating association.
