Great Neck Park District's rink since 1964

The Great Neck Park District constructed the Parkwood Sports Complex in 1964 with a pool and an ice rink. The rink was enclosed in 1970, and the pool beside it has since been expanded into the Parkwood Family Aquatic Center; the complex remains one of the district's major facilities.

After September 11, 2001, the district renamed the rink the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink in honor of a Great Neck resident who grew up playing hockey on this ice and died in the World Trade Center that day. Born March 7, 1978, "Sterg" is remembered at the rink as a gifted athlete, a loyal friend, a team leader and a role model.

The rink runs public sessions, a skate school, freestyle ice and hockey, and the Great Neck Bruins travel program plays here, with competitive hockey focused on player development and teamwork through the season. The building also has a heated lounge with a wood-burning fireplace for the hours between sessions.
