Family-run Port Washington rink open since 1994; home of the Long Island Edge travel hockey program
Port Washington Skating Center has been run by the same family since it started in 1994. It is a father-and-son business, Fred and Kristian, and the rink has stayed in their hands for more than three decades.
Hockey is organised in-house. The rink runs its own house league with fall and spring seasons, and it is home to the Long Island Edge travel hockey program. It also hosts teams playing in the Nassau County High School League, and rink teams have gone on to state and national tournaments.
Three decades in the same building shows in who is on the ice. Many skaters and players have grown up here from pre-school to college, and the next generation is now being brought in by parents who skated at Port Washington as kids.
