Around St. Louis, your address can change a public-skating price. Several municipal partnerships extend discounts beyond the city named on the rink, while rental skates remain a separate part of the outing.
Centene Community Ice Center, Kirkwood and Creve Coeur are useful to compare because their residency rules are different. The right choice depends on the public opening, the trip and the rate your group actually qualifies for. This is not a ranking based on a headline admission price alone.
Centene for an outing you can plan ahead
Centene’s public-skating page lists $12 general admission and $5 admission for Maryland Heights residents. Skate rental adds $5, with applicable tax additional. The listed admission-and-rental amounts are therefore $17 or $10 before tax.
Advance registration is encouraged and receives priority; walk-ins depend on availability. Participants must complete the required waiver. For a group hoping to settle the arrangements before arrival, those booking instructions are as useful as the price.
The centre separates public skating from figure-skating practice. Its ten-visit public pass also excludes rental skates and has special-event limitations. A regular skater may want to compare the pass, but an occasional visitor should not assume that every themed session or rental is included.

- The facility’s architect describes single-level player access and locker rooms designed with sled-hockey athletes. Two sheets are permanently ready for sled hockey and two can be converted. Kirkwood for a municipal skate with specific beginner rules
The city’s Kirkwood Ice Arena information lists public admission at $6 for qualifying residents and $7 for nonresidents, plus $3 rental. Kirkwood and Glendale residents qualify for the resident rate with the required identification.
Those listed rental-inclusive combinations are $9 and $10. The discount is modest for a single visit, so a workable calendar may matter more than travelling farther to save a dollar.
For young learners, Kirkwood allows skating buckets on a first-come basis, generally for children eight and under with an accompanying adult and one bucket per skater. That is a specific public-session provision, not a promise of reserved equipment or a supervised lesson. Consult the current September calendar and any exceptions before making plans.

Creve Coeur for a wider resident-discount area
Creve Coeur’s public-ice page extends its resident admission rate to Maryland Heights and Olivette residents as well as Creve Coeur residents. General admission is $5 at the resident rate or $7 for nonresidents, with $3 skate rental.
Adults 55 and older have a separate senior admission rate, and children four and under can skate without an admission charge when accompanied by a paying adult under the stated conditions. Read the actual eligibility rules rather than applying the least expensive number to the whole group.
The same page links dated public calendars and distinguishes public skating from freestyle and stick-and-puck. That distinction protects the purpose of the trip: a calendar with available ice is not necessarily a calendar with the recreational opening you want.

Compare the ticket your group will buy
Start with the St. Louis public-skate schedule, then check residency evidence, rental needs and the operator’s current calendar. The three rinks are different options rather than interchangeable branches of one system.
For a one-off visit, Centene’s advance-booking process may be helpful. Kirkwood’s published bucket rules may answer a young learner’s equipment question. Creve Coeur’s partner-city discount may matter to a household that would otherwise assume it was paying the nonresident rate. Choose on those concrete differences, without treating price or building size as a prediction of crowding.
